La Relectrice

A cover commission for La Relectrice, the first instalment of a self-published feel-good trilogy. The story of Joanna, 35, a sharp-tongued anti-heroine who ends up proofreading novels online to pay her rent — when all she ever wanted was to write her own.

The author's brief was clear: stand out from the typical feel-good covers, which tend to look too childlike. Go for something more grounded, more real. I illustrated Joanna in her bohemian, colourful flat — trailing plants, books everywhere, a glass of wine and an ashtray on the coffee table. An interior that looks as much like her as it tells her story.
